Purpose

The concept of Dina and Mitchell’s home is based on tranquillity. Inspired by the colours along the seaside of Italy, as well as Dina’s Italian culture. The couple’s home is situated in the Church and Wellesley area, also known as “the Village.” The Village is prominently known as the LGBT enclave in Toronto with its thriving mix of bars, cafes, restaurants and Pride parades.
The concept of tranquillity focuses on creating a space of calmness, relaxation, and a sense of sanctuary away from the busyness of the area, as well as their work and social life.

Ground Level
Open kitchen with a view of the Dining area, wooden partitions separating the Dining and Living area with a view of the outdoor balcony.

Second Level
Second-level (mezzanine) open to ground level with a view of the Living area. Private areas include Master bedroom, a shared office, a second bathroom, and a private balcony.

Living Area

The essence of tranquillity will be reflected by evoking an open, clean, and elegant atmosphere. This will be accomplished by using natural, muted, and cool colours throughout each space creating a light and relaxing mood. Large open spaces, visual connections to nature and natural light will enhance the essence of tranquillity between spaces. Each space will be furnished with simple and clean-lined designs emphasizing the space to feel uncluttered and clean.

By being mindful to the couple’s grand lifestyle of entertaining many friends and being involved with the art and design community, their home will be their calm sanctuary, as well as a contemporary and elegant social space.
